Trend: Socks + Sandals + a Dior DIY

Source: Style.com

Some people seem none too pleased about the SS10 socks and sandals trend, likely because, for all too long, it has been embodied by Birkenstocks and gym socks.  But au contraire, mes amis! Try kicking up the socks and (killer-heel-and/or-wedge-) sandals trend with a pair of sparkly socks à la Christian Dior ready to wear collection (above).  Can't find a pair of these sheer delights in store yet? Follow this easy DIY:

I feel like pictures speak louder than words, but in case anyone is confused by the above instructions, here is your easy 3-step program:
  1. Snag a pair of sparkly tights, like the Jive Ribbed Glitter Tights, 42 kr. ($7.77 USD) on Amazon.co.uk (above), or ASOS Gold Glitter Tights, 91.24 kr. ($17 USD).
  2. Cut the tights to whatever length you like (see Dior runway for the perfect ankle length!), leaving a couple extra inches.
  3. Fold under the extra length and stitch down (or just tuck it in, if you are a no-fuse type DIY'er)
Simple, no?

eBay scoop: BCBG snakeskin contrast heels

Yes, yes...not buying anything...blah, blah, blah.  I really shouldn't go on record with such nonsense. I am still sticking to my sale-price-only shopping (don't worry Kimmy, we will be exotically sunning ourselves on Westboro beach come July!), but when I came across these BCBG Max Azria platform heels from their amazing SS09 collection on eBay...how was I to resist?? At a fraction of the price, perfect for my SS10 wardrobe, and in my size...it was fate, packaged as 5 inches of ooh-la-la (the "ooh-la-la" factor being the square-like-geometric-contrast-coloured heels). Oh, je t'aime.

Administrative duties: Blog awards + En lille blogleg

I just realized that I am *cough* a little behind in my "administrative" duties here on Canadieren (...if you can call them that?)  So here is a little catch up all in one! 3 points on today's agenda: 1) Beautiful Blogger Award, 2) Best Blog Award, 3) En Lille Blogleg...

First up, the always lovely AH from Confessions of an Anonymous Shopaholic passed on the Beautiful Blogger Award to your truly. As usual there is a little activity attached: this time, 7 things I love, which is easy enough (and in no particular order)...
  1. Skippy Peanut Butter
  2. Dim Sum, especially the dumplings
  3. My cat, Zachariah
  4. My amazing, Canadian lady friends (Kim-bones, Bish, Kayla MEYER, Mags, Tasha, Leah, to name a few)
  5. That cute redhead boyfriend of mine
  6. All incarnations of Danish pastry
  7. The contents of my closet (too many things to name!)
And I am passing this award on the following beautiful bloggers:  New Sense Nuisance, kaKofonie Of si(gh)lenS, fashion atelier., An Ordinary Girl's World, and EL_MARTINA. Go check out their lovely blogs (and selves)!

Numero Deux, we have the Best Blog Award that I got from the amazing Kristie of The Society of Style. This is a simple  "pass it on", which I do now to the following blogs, which definitely top my "best of" list: fashion is my boyfriend, Københavns Manhattan, Passions for Fashion, Daily Style Diary, and Fashion Illusion. Go spread the love!

And finallyJeg er blevet tagget  i en lille blogleg af Charlotte fra Et Oejeblik, which I will answer in English just to save some time and sanity (I already have a 3 hours Danish class to look forward to tonight, and no patience for a dictionary right now!)

Blomst? My favourite flower has been the same since I was 4, African violets!
Mad? My favourite meal is definitely "Dim Sum" (repetition much?), which is small tastes of different Chinese dishes (dumplings, pork buns, etc.)...soooo good.
Bøger? I have way too many favourite books, but right now it is probably "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance", and I just started reading the latest Dan Brown book på dansk, which is good so far (what I understand, anyway!)
Tøj? Favourite clothing piece (of the moment) is my Gina Tricot Andrea Blazer
Sko? Favourite shoes (of the moment) are still my Free People Corset Heels, but I just made a bid on eBay for a sweet little pair from BCBG....!
Bagværk? Fav pastry is definitely kanelsnegle! Or just your average wienerbrød
Grøntsag? Fav veggie is weirdly brussels sprouts...we used to eat them raw in the garden at my kindergarten, so I guess it is a childhood favourite?? haha
Frugt? Passion fruit!! I went on vacation to Dominican Republic a few years ago, and I came back with a serious Passion fruit obsession.
Film? Like books, I have many favourites, but the only 2 DVDs I have in Denmark are Jesus Christ Superstar (an amazing Andrew Lloyd Webber musical from the 70's), and The Shawshank Redemption (or "En verden udenfor" as my Danish version is titled)
Te eller kaffe? I like coffee in the morning, and tea in the afternoon (there is a little Brit in me, after all)
Ugeblad? I'm not really into any weekly mags--but I have flipped through Se og Hør, since my roommate bought them for the Harry Potter DVDs...!
Strand- ski, eller storbyferie? Favourite vacation spot would have to be a big city...but with the beach near by! What can I say? I like the best of both worlds.
Øl eller vin? I like both beer and wine, and unfortunately sometimes together (which never seems like such a good idea anymore in the morning...)
Sport? Fav sport is swimming, followed closely by cardio kick-boxing...I like to intimidate. (Just kidding)

Jeg tagger Skille fra Skilles Univers.

***Regular broadcasting will return shortly...I hope***

Currently craving: Litter Jewelry

I've been enamored with Litter's chain + metal creations for a while now, but I have so far resisted the price tag...this might have to change soon, however, because I am a little head-over-heels with my current favourite piece(s): the Beetle Hand Jewelry, followed closely by the Arrows and Swords Necklace ( $125 a piece).  Check out the rest of the goods here, especially if you are in the market for every possible incarnation of the body chain (think head, arm, chest, ear, elbow, thigh...they have it all!)

Trend: Double Denim....or Canadian Tuxedo??

We have a special name in North America for a head-to-toe jeans and/or denim outfit: a "Canadian Tuxedo".  Yes, Canada as usual is the scapegoat for a fashion crime committed equally by both Yanks and Canucks--but blame game aside, this is roughly what runs through the mind of the average Canadian when someone says "Double Denim":

The other "average Canadians" above are the lovely Kim and Lydia, (who are anything but average, actually).  But to the point: imagine my horror when I kept seeing head-to-toe denim smeared across the SS10 runways, ad campaigns, and creeping into street style....and it looked......good
(Top, L-R): Elsa Hosk, Elle Sweden Feb. 2010; Helmut Lang SS10; Street style, Garancedore.fr. (Bottom): Twenty8Twelve SS10; Lily Donaldson shot by Sølve Sundsbø; Topshop ad campaign.

Basically, the above trend goes against every Canadian fashion principle I have ever known. Well, come to think of it, it's probably the only fashion principle Canada has, which makes it even harder: dare I break the cardinal rule? Apparently, the answer is yes...yesyesyesyesYES! ...thank god I'm in Denmark.

Gårsdagens outfit

This is basically an ode to eBay in an outfit: the leather half-gloves, over-sized shirt and wooden statement necklace are all some of my fav eBay scoops. The necklace is the most recent, and won for a cool GBP 2.99...love.  I also dug out my Forever 21 heels that I got last spring, but didn't use all that much. This will sound weird...but they kind of reminded me of rhinoceroses. On my feet. (...I told you it would sound weird) Yet they have warmed on me for the coming season, what with all these light-pastel-nude-y colours floating along the runways, and most of my heeled-footwear being in the darker end of the colour chart (read: black, black, black)...this will need to change.

Dagens...in bed

Sorry for the less-than-enthusiastic blogging the last couple of days--but as you can see from my outfit of the day...I am sick in bed, and my most fashionable accessory for the weekend looks like it will be my down comforter (which in this picture looks weirdly like a billowy, fancy skirt? or maybe I'm just hallucinating...) My boyfriend took this picture this morning before he left me to sleep my day away....can you tell how impressed I am??

After a little Dexter and hot tea, I'll be a good little blogger and post a backlogged Dagens outfit to salvage any readership I might have left (yes, I am being over-dramatic...it's the sinus meds talking)....I hope every else is healthy and happy!
